Memorial complex in honor of the 1185 Soviet Troops who perished inthe battles for Brody in 1941 and 1944
Monument of local historical significance (Security No. 254, Order No. 183 dated 05.05.1972). This memorial stands on I. Bohuna street near the Brody city limits. The monument was opened in 1955 in a small park, in a group of 5 sculptures. Surrounding it is a park planted with evergreens and fir trees. At the entrance – two vases. A walkway of stone slabs leads to the monument, as do two pathways of paving stones. The monument faces north and was built of marble with a base of concrete. The central monument is a statue of a woman with a child. With her right hand, she embraces the child, and in her left hand she holds a branch. In the right hand of the child – a book. Steps, in the shape of a trapezoid, are located in the foreground of the pedestal and at their apex, a shield with a five-pointed star. The inscription reads (in Russian): “Eternal glory to the heroes”. On rectangular plates located on the left and right side of the pedestal are inscribed the names of the soldiers who were killed in the Brody battles in 1941 and 1944. In addition, these names of fallen Soviet soldiers are carved at the foot of the pedestal on a horizontal plate. On the left and right sides of the monument, on small pedestals of concrete, there are 4 rectangular plates of marble in an increasing order, which also list the names of the Red Army fallen. In total, 1,185 surnames of Soviet soldiers are recorded.
